One Building, Two Doors: Cabarrus Family Medicine on Poplar Tent Road

If you have driven Poplar Tent Road on the northwest side of Concord lately, you have passed 5641 without thinking much about it. It is one of those newer medical buildings that went up as the subdivisions filled in — tidy, unremarkable, easy to miss at 45 miles an hour. Inside it, two practices Solo Faith Church has now written about sit one floor apart.

Suite 101, and the Neighbors Upstairs

Suite 101 is Atrium Health Primary Care Cabarrus Family Medicine. Suite 201, upstairs, is Afton Pediatric Dentistry, which we spotlighted earlier this month. For a parent with a full afternoon and one car, that is not a trivia fact. It is a well check and a cleaning in the same parking lot.

Cabarrus Family Medicine runs seven offices across the region — China Grove, Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Locust, Mt. Pleasant, and the University area. The Poplar Tent office is the one that serves the corridor where most of Concord's new housing has landed.

What This Office Offers — and What It Doesn't

Worth knowing before you call: the service list is not identical at every Cabarrus Family Medicine office, and the Poplar Tent page has its own. Listed here are preventive and physical exams; pediatric medicine including newborn care; women's healthcare; minor surgical procedures such as stitches, biopsies, and lesion removal; behavioral health and counseling; care for the elderly; Department of Transportation physicals for existing patients; youth and sports physicals; sports medicine; sleep evaluations; nutritional counseling and diabetes education; pharmaceutical services; and x-ray, laboratory and diagnostic testing.

Some services listed at other Cabarrus Family Medicine offices do not appear on the Poplar Tent page — obstetrics, stress testing, and travel medicine among them. That is not a criticism, and it may simply reflect how the network divides its work. But if one of those is the reason you are calling, ask first rather than driving over.

Cabarrus Family Medicine describes its approach as relationship-based care, from newborn visits through care for the elderly.

Six of Eight Take Video Visits

Of the eight providers listed at Suite 101, six offer video visits alongside in-person care. That number is easy to skim past and it matters to a specific kind of neighbor: the third-shift worker who cannot make a 10 a.m. slot, the parent with a toddler and no childcare, the household running one vehicle between two jobs.

Solo Faith Church runs a food pantry that delivers by DoorDash for exactly this reason — because the gap between needing something and being able to physically get to it is where most people fall through. A rash, a medication question, a follow-up on lab results: none of those require a car if the practice will meet you on a screen.

The Eight People Who Work There

Atrium Health lists Mary K. Gentry, MD; Alexander C. Moshtaghi, MD; David C. Tignor, MD; David M. Cody, MD; Shradha Pant, MD; and Ronald A. Pollack, MD in family medicine, along with nurse practitioner Emily Lucrezia Ventre, FNP, and physician assistant Andrew Dehlin, PA. All eight are listed as treating all ages; seven are shown as accepting new patients.

The practice's staff also includes faculty and residents from the Atrium Health Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program, and Atrium Health describes Cabarrus Family Medicine as the area's only family practice whose physicians care for their own patients at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord. If you are admitted, your own doctor follows you in.

Getting There

Suite 101 is at 5641 Poplar Tent Road, Concord, NC 28027. The phone number is 704-782-1955 and the fax is 704-782-3903. Facility hours are posted per location on the Atrium Health site, and appointments can be booked online.

For the practice as a whole and all seven offices, visit Atrium Health Primary Care Cabarrus Family Medicine. For this office specifically — current providers, hours, and the service list quoted above — the Poplar Tent location page is the place to check.

Solo Faith Church meets at 587 Old Charlotte Rd SW in Concord, and we keep building out a directory of the places our neighbors can actually reach. It lives at solofaith.org.

Before You Call

Is this the same practice as Cabarrus Family Medicine on Copperfield Boulevard?

Same practice, different office. Cabarrus Family Medicine operates locations in China Grove, Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Locust, Mt. Pleasant, and the University area. Providers and posted services vary by office, so confirm the location before booking.

Can I be seen without coming in?

Six of the eight providers listed at this office offer video visits in addition to in-person care. Whether your particular concern can be handled that way is a question for the office at 704-782-1955.

Do they handle sports physicals for school?

Youth and sports physicals are on the posted service list for this location, as is sports medicine. Department of Transportation physicals are listed as available to existing patients only.

Solo Faith Church spotlights the Poplar Tent office of Cabarrus Family Medicine in our Solo Faith Directory because Concord's newest neighborhoods have filled with families who have not yet figured out where they go when a child spikes a fever at nine at night. Knowing the name of a practice down the road — and knowing six of its providers will see you on a screen — is the kind of ordinary knowledge that makes a place start to feel like home.
