A Concord Target Store Stocks the Solo Faith Hygiene Shelf

CONCORD, N.C. — A local Target store has donated $100 in gift cards to Solo Faith Church Inc., earmarked for hygiene items that will go out alongside the church's free grocery deliveries to households in Concord and Cabarrus County.

The donation fills a gap most people never think about. Federal food assistance does not cover soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, razors or diapers. Families receiving groceries are frequently set for dinner and short on the things that let a person walk into a job interview, a classroom or a doctor's office feeling like themselves.

One hundred dollars is a small amount of money. It is also the difference between a delivery box that feeds a household and one that lets them start the week clean.

The flyer Solo Faith Church shared announcing Target's gift card donation toward hygiene items for local families.

What Target's Community Giving Program Is

This is a quiet program, and most people in Concord have never heard of it. Individual Target stores set aside GiftCard donations for nonprofits and accredited schools working in their own community. Requests are made in person at the local store with proof of 501(c)(3) status. Donations generally run between $25 and $50, with an annual cap of $500 per organization, and they are available February through December as store funding allows. A decision typically comes back within about 30 days.

It sits inside a larger corporate giving structure organized around four stated priorities: thriving families, vibrant neighborhoods, emerging creatives and culture, and economic opportunity. The company's own framing is that its support happens locally, where its team members live and work. In practice, that meant a store team in this area chose to spend part of a small, finite local budget on a Concord church's hygiene shelf. Modest budget, real decision, real people making it.

What $100 Buys, Honestly

There is no point inflating this. One hundred dollars will not end hygiene poverty in Cabarrus County. What it will do is stock a specific shelf with specific items that go out alongside grocery deliveries:

  • Soap and body wash

  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste

  • Deodorant and shampoo

  • Razors and other basic personal care items

Those items ride along with the free grocery deliveries Solo Faith's AI-automated online pantry sends out. A neighbor places an order at solofaith.org/foodbank, the system builds the delivery schedule, and a DoorDash driver carries it to the door — no cost, no paperwork, no judgment. Adding hygiene items to that box costs the household nothing extra, and it changes how the whole delivery feels on the receiving end. That is the part a dollar figure does not capture.

Solo Faith Church runs its pantry and delivery ministry out of 587 Old Charlotte Rd SW, Concord, NC 28027, serving Concord, Cabarrus County and, as capacity allows, households across the wider Charlotte region. Services are Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM, in person and live-streamed.

Thank You, Target

To the Target team who approved this donation: thank you. A hundred dollars is not a headline, and we suspect you did not give it expecting one. But somebody in Concord is going to open a delivery box and find a bar of soap and a toothbrush in it, and they will feel seen rather than merely fed. Solo Faith Church is a faith-based nonprofit, and dignity has always been half the assignment — Jesus (Yeshua) fed crowds, and he also washed feet. Thank you for helping cover the half nobody funds. We would be glad to keep this relationship going.

Other Concord and Cabarrus County nonprofits can read about the company's approach on the Target corporate giving page, and the store-level details are published in Target's Community Giving GiftCard request form. If your organization serves the same neighborhoods a Target store does, it is worth the trip to the service desk.

Solo Faith Church is telling this story because hygiene need is the part of poverty nobody puts on a flyer, and a company noticing it deserves to be named out loud. We also tell it so our neighbors know that what arrives at their door is meant to cover more than the pantry list.
