Thrive Dental in Concord: A Career That Began at a Free Clinic

Aug 28
4 min read

Dr. Kevin Golden was a first-year college student in Georgia when he volunteered at a community service event called Dentistry from the HEART — a day of free care for people living with dental pain they could not afford to fix. He had already decided on healthcare. That day decided the rest. Today he practices in Concord, at Thrive Dental on Thunder Road NW.

A Career That Started at a Free Clinic

Golden is originally from Atlanta. He studied chemistry at Valdosta State University before earning his dental degree from the Dental College of Georgia in Augusta. What stayed with him from that first volunteer day, by his own account on the practice's website, was watching what good dentistry did for people who were in pain and out of options. Since finishing school he has kept current on newer dental tools and techniques. Outside the office he travels, tries new restaurants, and keeps an active routine. It is a short biography, but the through-line is hard to miss: he found this work at a free clinic, and the practice he built still describes a philosophy of care that reaches past the office walls into community outreach.

What Thrive Dental Handles

Thrive Dental is a general practice spanning preventive, cosmetic, and restorative work — routine cleanings and exams at one end; crowns, bridges, root canal therapy, implants, veneers, bonding, whitening, and clear aligners at the other. Dental emergencies are handled as well. What the practice puts front and center, though, is not a procedure list. It is the experience of walking in: an office built so that a dental visit can feel calm rather than clinical, with staff who take time to know patients by name. Whether that lands is something each patient judges for themselves. But it is an unusual thing for a dental office to organize its identity around, and it suggests who they are trying to reach — the neighbor who has been putting off the appointment for years.

For Families Without Dental Insurance

The detail most worth passing along to Concord neighbors is the in-house membership plan. Rather than turning away uninsured patients or leaving them to guess at costs, Thrive Dental sells annual plans directly:

  • Adult Preventive Plan — $429 per year

  • Child Preventive Plan, age 13 and under — $396 per year

  • Periodontal Plan — $649 per year

Each plan includes a routine set of X-rays and one emergency exam with X-ray per year alongside cleanings; the periodontal plan adds four periodontal maintenance cleanings and two fluoride treatments annually. Additional family members are $29 off each, and plans can be mixed and matched — the practice's own worked example is a family of four at roughly $1,600 a year. Prices and plan terms change, so confirm the current numbers when you call.

What a First Visit Looks Like

For anyone who has been away from a dentist long enough to dread going back, the practice describes the first appointment plainly: a cleaning, a comprehensive exam, and X-rays, after which Dr. Golden sits down with you to go through what he found. If everything is healthy, you schedule your next visit at the front desk and leave. If something needs attention, he explains the results, answers questions, and describes what he would recommend before anything else is scheduled. No decisions made over you while you are still in the chair.

Where to Find Them

Thrive Dental is at 5965 Thunder Rd NW, Suite C, Concord, NC 28027. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed weekends. To reach the front desk, call (704) 610-8444 or email Frontoffice@thrivedentalnc.com. They were listing themselves as accepting new patients at the time this was written.

To see the full range of treatments and meet the team, visit Thrive Dental directly. Families weighing the cost of care without insurance can read the details of their Concord dental membership plans before they call.

At Solo Faith Church — 587 Old Charlotte Rd SW in Concord — we keep track of the local providers our congregation and pantry neighbors ask about, and dental care comes up as often as almost anything else. Cost is usually the reason someone waited.

Solo Faith Church features Thrive Dental in our Solo Faith Directory because untreated dental pain quietly costs Cabarrus County families sleep, work days, and the confidence to sit across a table from someone — and a practice that prices care openly for the uninsured is removing a barrier that keeps neighbors away for years. Dignity includes being able to smile without covering your mouth.
