Where to Serve Court-Ordered Community Service Hours in Concord
A man came through our doors this week holding a court order and a number of hours he needed to complete. He wanted to know whether he could work them off here. The answer was yes. What stayed with us afterward was the thought that he is probably not the only person in Concord asking that question, and that most people asking it have nowhere obvious to ask.
Why a Church Says Yes to This
Solo Faith Church is a church first. We follow Jesus (Yeshua), and the two commands He gave — love God, love your neighbor — do not arrive with a screening question attached. Scripture is full of people handed real work to do after the worst season of their lives. We are not interested in what put the paperwork in someone's hand. We are interested in whether there is something useful for them to do once they get here. There is.
We should be straight about one thing: this is not a program we have run for years. A man asked, we said yes, and we are putting the word out because the ask almost certainly is not unique to him.
How a Placement Actually Works
In North Carolina, court-ordered community service runs through the Community Service Work Program, and the coordinator assigned to your case has to approve the site where you serve. That approval is the part we do not control, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is this: Solo Faith Church Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity in Concord, we have real work that needs doing, and we will track your hours and sign what your coordinator needs signed.
Bring your paperwork. Reach out before you come so we know to expect you and can have work ready rather than sending you home. If your coordinator wants to speak with someone here before approving the placement, we will take that call.
The Work Itself
Three kinds of work run here most weeks, and hours can be served in any of them:
Food pantry — sorting donations, checking dates, and packing grocery orders for households across Concord and Cabarrus County.
Delivery prep — staging and labeling the grocery runs that go out to neighbors who cannot get to a pantry themselves. Taking transportation off the list of reasons a family goes without food is central to what this church does, and this is the work that makes it happen.
Facilities — grounds, room setup and breakdown, cleaning, and help in the café and lounge.
None of it requires experience. Someone will show you how on your first shift.
Free Courses While You Are Here
The church also runs Solo Seminary, a set of free self-paced online courses — preaching, early church history, community building, daily life in the ancient world. Anyone serving hours here is welcome to take any of them at no cost. To be clear about it: coursework is not the same thing as service hours, and whether any of it counts toward your obligation is your coordinator's call, not ours. We mention it because a court order is a strange way to meet a church, and some people would rather walk out with more than a signed timesheet.
What We Will Not Do
We will not ask you what happened. We will not tell the congregation why you are here. You get introduced the way every volunteer gets introduced — by name, and by the job you are doing that day. People serving hours work shoulder to shoulder with our regular volunteers, and outside of the paperwork there is no practical difference between the two.
Common Questions
Do I have to be a member, or a Christian?
No. There is no membership requirement, no dress code, and no expectation that you attend a service. You are welcome at Saturday or Sunday worship at 1:00 PM if you want to come, and nothing changes if you do not.
Does my community service coordinator have to approve this?
Yes. In North Carolina the coordinator assigned to your case approves the placement site. Contact us before your next meeting with them so we can give you what you need to bring.
What if I have never done pantry work before?
Then you get trained on your first shift, the same as everyone else. Nothing here requires prior experience.
Will you sign my hours?
Yes. We track hours and sign the documentation your coordinator requires.
Do the free online courses count toward my hours?
That is your coordinator's decision, not ours. The courses are free to anyone serving here either way.

Alongside the on-site pantry, the church runs a free online food pantry and a DoorDash-supported delivery program that brings groceries to the doors of households facing transportation barriers — at no cost, no judgment, no paperwork. Much of the intake, delivery scheduling and reporting behind it runs on automation the church built itself, which is how a small team keeps deliveries moving week after week.
