Ancient Greek Civilization: A Free Course on the Roots of the West

Walk through almost any corner of Western life — a courtroom, a theater, a university lecture, a ballot box — and you are standing on ground first cleared by the ancient Greeks. Solo Faith Church has opened a free online course that traces that story from the beginning. Ancient Greek Civilization: Roots of the Western World follows the Greek world from Bronze Age Crete to Alexander the Great, and it is free, self-paced, and open to anyone.

From Bronze Age Crete to Alexander the Great

The course is organized into six modules and fourteen lessons, each with a short quiz. It begins by asking why Greece matters at all, then moves through the so-called Dark Ages and the age of heroes that Homer sang about. From there it follows the Archaic world of trade, religion, and a shared Greek identity; the slow, contested road to democracy in Athens; and the Classical age of war, empire, and breathtaking culture. The final module turns to crisis, philosophy, and the long Greek legacy that outlived the city-states themselves.

Why a Church Teaches Greek History

It is a fair question, and the course answers it in every lesson. The world of the New Testament was a Greek-speaking world. When the Apostle Paul stood on the Areopagus in Athens and reasoned with the philosophers, he was speaking into the very culture this course explains. Greek ideas about democracy, philosophy, theater, and human dignity shaped the soil into which the early church was planted. Understanding Greece is one of the clearest windows into the Bible's own backdrop — and Solo Faith Church teaches it as exactly that, connecting Greek history to biblical faith without flattening either one.

Explore the ancient Greek world that shaped Western civilization and the New Testament. This free online course traces democracy, philosophy, theater, and human dignity from Bronze Age Crete to Alexander the Great — connecting Greek history to biblical faith in every lesson.
